The circa 1842 Casa Soberanes Adobe features thick walls, interconnecting rooms, and a cantilevered balcony as well as a lovely garden.  You can visit the garden, but the house is closed because of earthquake damage.

  1. I am 9th generation descendant of Jose María Soberanes a Spaniard Soldier member of the Portola Expedition, knowned by the fact of being the ones who discover The San Francisco Bay.One of his sons,Mariano (mayor of Monterey)purchased the house in 1860 and the Soberanes Family kept the house until 1922.There was a moment in time when the Soberanes Estate was quite large..more than thirty five thousand acres, including the Soberanes Vineyards in the Hillside of the Santa Lucia Highlands.Don´t forget to visit Soberanes Point at the coast,it´s very near to Carmel and I´m sure you will enjoy!
