The historic Casa Gutierrez adobe was built by a young Chilean soldier for his bride circa 1846--when Monterey was still part of Mexico. Fifteen children were raised by them here! It is one of the few remaining adobes built in a simpler Mexican style and is now part of Monterey State Historic Park.
