San Francisco
These sweet retreats officially began in San Francisco in 2005, when someone rolled out a grass carpet on a Mission Street parking space. Dubbed “parklets,” they started multiplying in 2010. Now, to the concern of some and the delight of others, more parking spaces have merged with sidewalks to make more mini-parks. Usually they are affiliated with restaurants, which maintain them, and prefer to see their own customers taking their purchases there to enjoy and do not usually encourage picnicking.
One of my favorites parklets is:
More things to do in San Francisco
Way more things to do in San Francisco.
More ideas for exploring Northern California.
