9th Avenue entrance to Mountain Lake Park in San Francisco, California |
Situated behind a row of lovely homes along Lake Street, well-hidden Mountain Lake Park has expanses of green, designated trails, and a few picnic shelters for bad-weather days. Additionally, this delightful park has a lakeside path, a basketball court, tennis courts, a large, well-equipped playground off 12th Avenue, and a par course that begins at 9th Avenue (this is my entrance of choice). An off-leash dog play area is located in the park's east, and be aware that though the law dictates that dogs be leashed, owners often ignore it. The lake itself attracts a variety of ducks and is stocked with native turtles. It is interesting to know that spring-fed Mountain Lake supplied all of the city’s water between 1852 and 1870.
