Introduction to Yreka
Located
approximately 50 miles north of Mount Shasta, and 22 miles south of the Oregon
border, the small town of Yreka is positioned halfway between San Francisco and
Portland, Oregon. Allow time here to visit the town museum and historic district, and perhaps to grab a quite bite to eat.
Siskiyou County Museum
910 S. Main St.This small museum emphasizes local artifacts and history. Of special interest is the occasional exhibit featuring a local pioneer family, one of which was the Terwilligers.
A 2¼-acre Outdoor Museum is located adjacent. Among its original and replica historic buildings are a schoolhouse, a Catholic church, a blacksmith shop, a miner's cabin, and an operating general store.

West Miner Street Historic District
Along Miner St.More than 75 19th-century homes are seen here, with most situated on the four blocks of Third Street located between Lennox and Miner. The Chamber of Commerce provides a descriptive tour brochure.
