Who knew? Napa
is home to a pet cemetery. Positioned
near the top of a twisting mountain road, Bubbling Well Pet Memorial Park overlooks
the Napa Valley. More than 12,000 pets
are buried in grassy sections surrounded by woodsy gardens and spread over 5
acres. Sections include Gentle Giants
for larger breeds, Mighty Midgets for smaller guys, and Kitty Kurve. A life-size marble seal from Carrara, Italy, sits
in a pond. More statuary is scattered
through the park, and picnic tables invite spending more time. When I visited, no one else was here except a
solo deer. Note that I first learned
about this pet cemetery through the 1978 documentary film about the pet
cemetery business, “Gates of Heaven,” which is produced and directed by Errol
Morris.
