San Francisco: Eagle Cafe; restaurant review

San Francisco

Eagle Cafe

Situated at the Pier 39 entrance, the casual Eagle Cafe dates from 1928--when it was located across the street.

Seating is available indoors and out, with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, sea lions, and Alcatraz.  The menu offers hearty breakfasts that include the expected as well as an array of Benedicts, omelettes, and pancakes.  The full breakfast menu is served until 11:20 a.m., and then a partial menu is available.  Lunch brings on many seafood items, such as seafood pasta and fish & chips.  My favorite is the crab roll, which is toasted and buttery and filled with delicious fresh Dungeness crab.  A large antique bar is the perfect place for solo dining or cocktail sipping.  Choose from two versions of a Bloody Mary--one with pickled veggies on a stirring stick and another that adds in bacon and shrimp.  I am a fan of the mai tai.  Another great spot for a drink is at a narrow rustic-wood bar on a sheltered deck outside overlooking the bay.  You might have a fighting chance of not gaining weight here because there is no dessert menu.

  1. That is a great place with great views! We were in Pier 39 last year. I hope to visit my daughter in San Francisco again in August. Then I can try the crab roll!!!

  2. We still have San Francisco on our "to do" list. Now we know that one stop will have to be at the Eagle Cafe for some fish and chips. It looks delectable.
